Default Melee rangers

Hello all, i couldn't find thread similar to this so I am opening.

I'm curious if anyone is using ranger as a melee. Me going to try to be melee now with ranger, so trying to see what would be the best. I don't want to go as R/A because personally, i hate attacking with daggers. Was thinking W or D, but curious if anyone of you tried it and used it? Maybe hit me with a bar so i can see how does it work.

Reason why I'm switching to melee?
I want to try elite areas as melee, and normal play. I have done all elite areas on ranger with a bow or SoS, but never as a melee.
And I've been searching for some ranger melee builds, but didn't find any build.

Was thinking mix of Hundred Blades with Whirlind Defense with IAS or GDW.

I have been using a melee ranger for getting all my combat related titles, since it's (imo) more effective then using a bow or anything else.

All the builds where focused around Dwarven stability and Lightning reflexes for a long lasting 75% block and 33% IAS

I either used an Axe or scythe (both before and after the dervish update, though now I prefer axe over scythe)

When using an Axe my build looked something like this:

1 Triple Chop
2 Cyclone axe
3 Whirlwind attack
4 Disember / optional
5 Disrupting Chop/ optional
6 "Save Yourselves!" / "I am Unstoppable!"(depending on the area)
7 Dwarven Stability
8 Lightning Reflexes

Thanks...what is Disember though, could not wiki it ?

I guess i don't need Expertise on warrior skills, so i can as well put it for lighting reflexes...maybe that is in expertise, dont know so this might be babbling :P

but yeah, i had something like that in my mind, care to hit with a template as well? or ill go and make it in game..currently on work, so can't do anything, but thanks for your opinion!

mayber IAS (i am teh strongest on this world) instead of disrupting...will have to see...

Maybe something like this?

Lightning Reflexes is great because you have a 33% IAS and a 75% change to block.
And 100b + Sun and Moon + Whirling Attack is really painfull for your enemies.

replace 4 Dismember with comfort animal
Replace 5 Disrupting chop with predatory bond or Poison Tip Signet apply it before whirlwind attack...

Try and use all Stance mods on your shield

Just my opinion its fun have a /mes hero run epidemic with poison tip signet and a minion bomber and a nec/rt heal can kinda do what ever 7 heros makes Everything OP lol Gl Hf

No idea if that's the correct skill name, I was talking about that axe skill that causes an unconditional deep wound, and yes, LR is in Expertise .

The attributes for the build are:
Expertise 12+1+1
Axe Mastery 12

The equipment I use is a zealous axe of fortitude with a 15/50 mod and a 'standard' stance shield ( -2dmg/stance, +45hp/stance)

The armor I used was full Sentry's armor (+10al/stance), highest vigor you can afford, Minor expertise on mask, rest vitae runes.

My suggestion to the above post is this:
Expertise 9+1+2 (will only rise LR e-cost by 1)
Axe Mastery 12
Beast Mastery 8+1

OgETcVLKZC8RpYHM3g2Q0r44uE

You'll have 1 more AoE every 5 secs and 1 more tank and 1 more ally to trigger MoP, orders and all that physical damage stuff.

I remember the first time i cleared UW with 7 heros was using my ranger as mele, needed no micro, just basic flagging.
I think that was similar to a godmode warrior build. Strength and Expertise. Wasn't designed for huge dmg, but dealt an ok amount with great support too.
It was something like:

Lightning Reflexes
Savage Slash
Dragon Slash
Sun and Moon Slash
Pain Inverter/optional
Save Yourselves
For Great Justice
I am Unstoppable.

As you can see minimal dmg skills, but with the heros groups tended to die quick without us taking any losses, and savage slash for key interupts, PI worked great on Terrorwebs too.

Melee Rangers are loads of fun especially in PvE because you can combine Dwarven Stability with Lightning Reflexes. I think Rangers actually get the best stance conditions after a viewing a list of everything available and you have room to go /W, /D, or /A. I was thinking of making a Ranger for this very reason.

Absolutely agree. I first made my Ranger 5 years ago and immediately went the R/W route with sword skills such as Riposte and going Ranger stance crazy. I had a ton of fun blowing through PvE as a melee ranger and still am having a good time doing so. (currently running a bunny thumper build though)

As per the original post, I think that a R/D build is the more popular choice at this point but a R/W, R/D, and R/A are all completely viable combos and i've seen the Expertise trait really dominate some builds and make those combos run very well.

Speaking of using melee on a non melee char, I like to use a sword on my monkie sometimes.
When I do, I always use candy corn, they'r cheap, work you a bit to the title and a great boost in damage. cause it ups both smite and swmanship!

Been using this one, and for 4th i have put dismember, and for 5th still dont know what to put..i have put that one (its in expertise i think so) that makes all adjecent foes blind...i think that should come in handy...what is good dmg i do? I make around 16-55 in HM..is that good? don't know, never used ..tried UW NM, and was making 30-65 dmg to all adjacent foes.

I ran this axe build for a bit.

OgETI5aeTS4o4Qx5TjUUqQpwmEA

[WhirlingDef][LightningReflex][OnYourKnees][Soldier'sStrike][LightDeldrimor][Eviscerate][CycloneAxe][MoveLikeDwarf]

Expertise 13
Axe 12
Tactics 9

Used a zealous axe, sup expertise rune, r8 tactics shield (+10 vs slashing mod), sentry's insignias. Had a health of 526, AR rating of 96 vs phys (116 vs slashing) and 126 vs elemental.

I initially used DwarvenStability (instead of WhirlingDefense) but didn't like that it got stripped often. With this setup, you pretty much get a constant 75% block and 33% IAS as long as your target can be KDed.

The damage from my build isn't THAT great, but I stick SoH & splinter on my heroes and triple chop/cyclone axe/whirlwind attack + Splinter = big dmg .
